Val d'Anniviers: source of authenticity
The Val d'Anniviers is a valley from Sierre, separated into two valleys by the river Navizence, whose inhabitants are the Anniviards.
The wine specialty of the region is the wine of the Glacier, created from a particular vineyard: the reze. The principle is the method of transferring: the barrels are never emptied and every year new wine is added to the old one. The Génépi is also inescapable of the region. This small white flower that is found in the heights, but protected forms the base of this liquor.
The Val d'Anniviers offers a splendid view of the five summits culminating at more than 4'000 meters of altitude, Weisshorn (4'506 m), Zinalrothorn (4'221 m), Bishorn (4'153 m), Matterhorn (4'478 m) and the Obergabelhorn (4'063 m). No doubt that the view of the Imperial Crown will amaze you throughout your vacation.
Every year, the second weekend of August takes place the traditional Sierre-Zinal race. A mountain race of 31 km, of which 2'200 meters of climb and 800 meters of descent, with exceptional landscapes.
The villages consist of typical Valaisian chalets, all wooden with shingle roofs. The charm of these mazots has been preserved over the years.
